Problem
OEM audits require unit-level traceability, but batch records were split between paper travellers and team spreadsheets — a single quality enquiry took two hours to scope. First-off, patrol and 4M-change inspections travelled on paper and were easily missed; line-feeding checks and FIFO relied on human vigilance, so misbuilds were caught only after the fact.
Approach
Bind serial number, batch, tooling, operator and equipment to one work order; attach first-off/last-off, patrol and 4M-change inspections to the batch — automatic tolerance judgement, photo upload, supervisor review with an audit trail. Scan-verify materials against the work order at line feeding; block outdated batches at FIFO picking and warn on duplicate scans; connect assemblies and key components to ERP data for two-way traceability; aggregate quality data into e-boards and SPC.
Outcome
A structure that works from go-live: one serial number, one screen showing batch, operations, equipment, inspection results and sibling units. Quality enquiries no longer flip ledgers, and audit evidence exports per batch. Feeding checks and FIFO stop human errors before they happen, with inspection records complete and auditable. The same structure has been delivered to multiple automotive-parts manufacturers across injection, assembly and electronics shops.
Can be interrogated
What is the traceability granularity?
Two dimensions: serial number for after-sales reverse lookup, batch for quality containment. Assemblies link to key components so you can trace up and down the BOM tree.
How are inspection records managed?
First-off/last-off, patrol and 4M-change inspections all attach to the batch with automatic tolerance judgement; results support photo upload, require supervisor review, and cannot be silently modified.
What prevents errors?
Scan verification at line feeding, FIFO blocking of outdated batches at picking, and duplicate-scan warnings. Errors are stopped before they happen, not assigned afterwards.
What about historical data?
Pre-go-live batches are imported from ledgers with batch-level query only. We do not pretend to reconstruct unit-level history.
How do you integrate with OEM/ERP systems?
Export in the format they require or return data via interfaces confirmed during assessment; we never assume their API is ready.
