Trace to the part: from flipping ledgers to reading one screen
OEM audits require unit-level traceability, but batch records were split between paper travellers and team spreadsheets — a single quality enquiry took two hours to scope. First-off, patrol and 4M-change inspections travelled on paper and were easily missed; line-feeding checks and FIFO relied on human vigilance, so misbuilds were caught only after the fact.

Charging equipment: one traceability line from SMT to the finished unit
SMT, DIP, assembly, burn-in and packing ran in separate shops, each with its own barcode rules. A finished unit could be traced to a batch at best — not to a specific board, machine or commissioning run. Equipment brands and protocols were mixed, and commissioning data was copied by hand, losing accuracy at the moment of transcription.

Component plant: make the warehouse books real first
Raw materials were stacked arbitrarily with batches mixed; kitting relied on calls and operator memory, with errors found late; inventory was only known at month-end closing — a black box in between. Locations were not defined, and FIFO depended on memory, so ageing stock turned into pure cost.

Carbon data: get one line right first
The customer wanted a product carbon footprint. Finance allocated monthly totals, the shop floor recorded by team, and the two never reconciled. Emission factors were years-old defaults.

Batch records: merging three data sources into one batch
Batch data sat in DCS, paper records and spreadsheets; audits required manual reassembly. Critical parameters were transcribed by hand — transcription itself is a risk. Deviations had no single workflow from report to closure, so root causes got lost, and SOP versions drifted on the shop floor.
